JANEI
by and with Metzger / Zimmermann / de Perrot
Is the world falling off its own edge?
One grows older; with time everyone’s future evaporates, and the amount of memories one can look into grows just as fast. The protagonists, called statesmen, get to the edge of the world where existence is most intense, but also most questionable. The moment comes when the representatives no longer want to face their cruel exposed state and instead prefer to go into retreat together, into a closed system of processes and movements and defined relationships.
Janei is a crazy game with associations, insinuations and resentments, in a world where power games and insecure identity are the rule. There is no story in the usual sense here, but rather a telescoped, blown-away common destiny full of twists and mix-ups. A difficult policy, a summit of confusion, a merry-go-round of dictators, a lethargic circus of self-dissolution.
ABOUT
Dimitri de Perrot was co-founder and co-director of the artist collective MZdP (Metzger/Zimmermann/de Perrot, 1998-2005) and the Swiss directing duo Zimmermann & de Perrot (2006-2017). They invented a unique and world wide acclaimed form of physical theater mixing music, visual arts, dance, clownerie and modern circus. From these collaborations emerged two internationally active production offices. With their productions he performed life on stage for almost two decades.
